A rugged notebook offers mobile professionals the ability to work in any environment and in any location. If you primarily work outdoors and need a tough mobile computing solution - going the rugged notebook route is your best bet. These rugged notebooks will be heavier than non-rugged models but offer protection beyond what a standard laptop offers. When looking at rugged notebooks - look for those models which enable you to add extra batteries and have indoor/outdoor viewable displays.

The HP nr3610 ruggedized notebook meets military standards for vibration, temperature, sealing, humidity, low pressure and ESD. It has an Ingress Protection rating of IP-54. The case is constructed of die-cast magnesium for increased ruggedness. They keyboard is waterproof and uses NiteVue® so it will glow-in-the-dark.

8. Panasonic Tougbook 29 Rugged Notebook

The Panasonic Toughbook 29 has been designed rugged and includes fast processing and wireless connectivity options. The Panasonic Toughbook weighs just 7.9 lbs and has a 13.3" outdoor readable TFT Active Matrix LCD - touchscreen capability is optional. The LCD, touchpad and keyboard are moisture and dust-resistant. All the ports and connectors are sealed or have covers. The hard drive is shock-mounted in a stainless steel case.
